Artistic project :
As an artist in residence at LeCouvaNt, I would create two main bodies of work, each with a distinct inspiration about the passage of time and history of the location at the beautifully restored 17th century convent. Firstly, I am particularly interested in the history of the building and grounds of LeCouvaNt, its former use as a convent, and now as an arts center. I would like to create a series of prints, drawings and installation pieces about the history of the buildings. Projects would include site-specific drawings tracing the movement of the sun through the windows of the convent, as well as installing such drawings within the frames of the windows allowing them to be illuminated both day and night by the sun and interior lights. Another project, and possible collaboration, would involve creating prints or rubbings from the floors of the old buildings. These pieces, as well as others transferred from found objects, could be used to create interesting mixed-media installations with other artists in the program, possibly integrating sound or video elements. I am very interested in the unique history of the location and buildings, the possibility for collaboration and sharing of ideas, and would be thrilled to share my unique artistic skills create a new body of work inspired by the experience at LeCouvant.
